UNDERSTANDING AUTISM

Neuro-Affirming Approach

01

Our Values

Supporting Uniqueness

Autism and Neurodiversity
It’s time to quit accepting the status quo of neurodivergence as a limitation. Instead, we can accept this unique way of being from a strengths-based lens. By respecting our human neurodiversity in this world, we can all flourish. We all benefit from the biodiversity that makes our planet thrive.

Understanding Autism as:

  • A unique approach for taking in and interpreting the world of autism on the inside and outside.

  • A neuro-type that enhances the environment of autistic culture.

  • Provides identification with unique viewpoints, behaviors, artwork, communication styles, accomplishments, and sense of place.

  • Sometimes misunderstood, particularly in the case of high-masking autisticpeople whose distinctions are less obvious.

02

Neuro-affirming Approach

Supporting Strengths

Autistic Strengths can bring (any or all) Unique Perspectives:

  • Show aptitude and expertise in fields of great interest

  • Show display a strong sense of ethics and morality

  • Display straightforward and unambiguous communication

  • Capacity for rational thought that is less influenced by emotionInnovative problem-solvers and thinkers

  • Provide alternative viewpoints (e.g., being "pattern thinkers")

  • Less proneness to "group think,"

At DGPA, our evaluations are tailored to your individual needs, with no scripted battery.

We started this interdisciplinary collective out of a desire to connect community-based autism supports and services to providers and the community at large. Please reference the providers and current offerings for more details on area services.

Dr. Gray is thoughtful, thorough, strengths-based, and neurodiversity-affirming in her approach to assessment. As an AuDHD therapist who works primarily with Autistic and neurodivergent clients, Dr. Gray is one of the few psychologists I refer to when my clients need comprehensive evaluations.
